About Emirates

Emirates was established in March 1985 with backing from the Dubai royal family. It was required to work outside of the government subsidies but grew in popularity throughout the years. The airline’s first ever flight took to the skies in October of 1985, with a great success. The 2000’s saw a struggling Emirates with spiralling amounts of passengers and air fares.  However, this decline was heavily influenced by the worldwide recession, as well as the bombing of Colorado airport and the September 11th attacks. Since this trying time for the airline, they have slowly but surely picked up business again, becoming one of the top-tier airlines in the world today. In 2010, Emirates and Quantas airlines struck a 10-year deal ensuring the move Quantas’ hub. As of 2013, the alliance sees the sharing of code, aligned fairs throughout both airlines, and frequent flyer benefits for passengers who use both airlines to travel with.
