About KLM Airlines
KLM Airlines is the flagship airline of the Netherlands. The main hub is located at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, with the headquarters located in nearby Amstelveen. The airline makes up part of the Air France-KLM group, as well as being a member of the SkyTeam alliance. The first KLM flight took off in 1920; this makes the airline the oldest in the world to still retain its original name. A year later, the company began scheduled services, with the first international flight departing in 1924. By 1930, KLM had carried over 15,000 passengers to a range of destinations. By 1980, this figure had increased to over 9 million passengers a year.
In 2003, KLM and Air France chose to merge to create the Air France-KLM group.
In 2012, KLM made the first transatlantic flight made partly by sustainable biofuel. The flight landed in Rio de Janeiro and was the longest distance that any aircraft had flown using biofuels.
In both 2012 and 2013, KLM won the Best Airline Staff Award at the World Airline Awards, recognising both cabin crew and airport staff.
In 2014, the airline had over 32,000 employees, a fleet of 116 aircrafts and served 138 destinations. The annual revenue totalled over 9 billion Euros in the same year. The current CEO of the company is Pieter Elbers.
