About Qatar Airways
Operations by Qatar Airways commenced in 1994. By 1995, the airline had a small fleet which served the likes of Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Tokyo and Madras. Two years later, flights to London were launched and Qatar Airways’ reputation as an international airline was cemented. The first profit for the Qatar Airways Group was reported in 2004.
Since 2014, Qatar Airways has been fully owned by the Qatari Government. There are many divisions of the group such as Doha International Airport, Qatar Duty-Free and Qatar Holidays. Qatar Airways Cargo is the third largest cargo carrier in the world. The airline made a proposal for a Saudi Arabia-based airline, Al Maha Airways, which would be fully owned by Qatar Airways. The launch of the airline was pushed back until summer 2016.
In 2009, Qatar Airways flew the world’s first commercial flight using natural and synthetic fuel, from London to Doha.
